Lexington Parks & Recreation is kicking off a busy August with the return of favorite city traditions, and the addition of fun new programs.
“We’re excited to offer a variety of events and activities,” said Amber Luallen, Superintendent of Cultural Arts & Events at Lexington Parks & Recreation. “We’re especially proud to bring back annual favorites, like Ballet Under the Stars and the Woodland Art Fair, which have become generational traditions for Lexingtonians. In addition, we’re offering some amazing new learning opportunities at Artworks at the Carver School, and in our natural areas, McConnell Springs and Raven Run. And we have seen our community centers come roaring back with camps and expanded hours.”
Dancers will take the stage at 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, August 5, through Sunday, August 8, at Woodland Park for Ballet Under the Stars. The Woodland Art Fair is scheduled for Aug. 21–22 in Woodland Park, the Big Band & Jazz concert series is set for Aug. 10 and Aug. 17 at Ecton Park, and Summer Nights in Suburbia continues Aug. 27, at Moondance Amphitheater.
“We’ve really taken to heart our role in the community and are constantly striving to offer new and exciting opportunities for residents to learn, experience nature, compete in sports, and enjoy live events,” said Monica Conrad, Director of Lexington Parks & Recreation. “We know the last year and a half has brought a lot of change to people’s lives and hope the arrival of some welcomed favorites as well as new engagements can help us all return to a sense of normalcy and community building, which we all long to achieve.”
