Explanation of LEXserv fees

Your LEXserv bill covers the fees for using three city services:  sanitary sewers, landfill and water quality. See below for more details on each fee and service.

Landfill fee

The landfill fee is $4.50 a month and provides for the safe, sanitary and environmentally responsible management and disposal of solid waste. In fiscal year 2012, the city of Lexington paid $2.2 million for these disposal costs.

If you do not receive waste pick-up services from LFUCG, the landfill fee will not appear on your LEXserv bill.

Sanitary sewer fee

The sanitary sewer fee is calculated based on water consumption, and pays for the maintenance and operation of Lexington’s sanitary sewer system.

Wastewater from sinks, tubs and toilets flows into Lexington’s system of pipes, pump stations and treatment plants for processing.

The fee for the first unit (0 – 100 cubic feet) used by a residential customer is $8.71 as of July 1, 2023. Each additional unit is charged at a rate of $6.56 as of July 1, 2023.

If you do not receive this service from the city, the sanitary sewer fee will not appear on your bill.

Water quality management fee

The water quality management fee allows the city to build and maintain Lexington’s stormwater system to safely and efficiently remove rainwater from the city and neighborhoods. These efforts help improve water quality in Fayette County streams by reducing stormwater pollution.

Single-family homes and duplexes pay 1 ERU (Equivalent Residential Unit) per month. The water quality management fee is $5.63 per ERU as of July 1, 2023.
