The City of Lexington has long known and appreciated the value of trees. In fact, Lexington’s first Comprehensive Plan, released in 1931, encouraged the planting of street trees, saying that trees would be an asset to our community.
The U.S. Forest Service defines an urban forest as “all publicly and privately owned trees within an urban area – including individual trees along streets and in backyards.”
