May 7, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Lexington Police Department will host its annual Honor Guard School, May 7through May 11. The school will be held at the NorthEast Christian Church, 990 Star Shoot Pkwy in Lexington.
The school is a 40-hour KLEC certified course, focusing on developing basic knowledge and proficiency with Honor Guard related assignments. The training includes a mixture of classroom instruction and small-group practical exercises. The course curriculum includes the following topics:
- History of Honor Guard
- Unit Selection
- Formations and Inspections
- Drill and Ceremony
- Manual of Arms
- Flag Folding Protocol
- Funeral Planning and Logistics
- Line of Death Benefits
The week concludes with a full line-of-duty mock funeral conducted entirely by the class.
We welcome agencies from all over the state and region, and work hard to provide the highest level of training possible. Because of the direct nature of the instruction and the level of activity, class size will be limited. We are currently filling spots on a first-come basis. The cost of the course is $200 per student. The fee covers tuition, as well as breakfast each day, classroom materials, and a class shirt.
If this course looks like a good fit for your agency’s training needs or if you have any further questions, please contact Lieutenant Nathaniel Muller. We appreciate your consideration, and hope to see you in May.
