Designed by local artist Philip High, the print is a colorful montage of performers, horses and the Lexington skyline.  “The concept was to take the downtown setting and entertainment activities  of Spotlight Lexington and interweave them into the energy and freedom of the equine spirit,” High said.   High received an honorarium for his winning piece.

The winning artwork was selected by a panel of artists.  Second place went to Michael Levin, a professor at Spencerian.

Smiley Pete Publishing is the Official Event Guide Sponsor for Spotlight Lexington.  The event guide will be the official one-stop-resource for what’s going on in Lexington, September 24 - October 10, 2010.  Approximately  50,000 event guides will be published with distribution through racks throughout Lexington and various businesses around the area.

Criteria for submissions:

• Art work should capture or interpret the spirit and elements of a festive/celebratory gathering of people in downtown Lexington during SPOTLIGHT LEXINGTON.
• Can not incorporate any logos or other wording associated with the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
• Do not utilize the Spotlight Lexington logo or wording.  This will be added during the conversion process.

In addition to the winning artwork receiving a purchase award, LFUCG may wish to acquire the original art.  The winning artwork will be converted into an official poster for SPOTLIGHT LEXINGTON and used in conjunction with additional marketing efforts.  Selected artists will receive local, regional, national and international exposure. 

If you are interested in participating here are some things to know:

• This contest is open to all Artists.
• Horizontal orientation is required.
• The selected piece will be resized to fit a 36” x 24” poster including a 3” banner at the bottom. The banner will include the event title (SPOTLIGHT LEXINGTON) and the logo.

With your submission, on single page, please provide the following artist information:

• Name of Artist(s)
• Address including city, state and zip code
• Day and Evening Phone Number
• Email address (must be provided)
• If Artist is a Minor, please provide the name of the minor’s parent or guardian.
• Describe the artist’s education and/or experience

Deadline to enter or submit your art is September 9, 2009.  Submissions and artist information should be dropped off at LFUCG Government Center, Mayor’s Office, Attention Krista A. Greathouse, 200 East Main Street, Lexington, KY

The contest will be judged by a jury of artistic and marketing professionals.  The top three artists will be notified by September 14.  A press conference to announce the winning piece and artist is scheduled for September 18 at 10 am.  Submissions not selected as the top three may be picked up at the Government Center after September 21.
