Tom Blues

Tom Blues was elected in 2006 to his first term as 2nd District council member. Born and raised in Detroit, educated at the University of Michigan (BA) and the University of Iowa (MA, PhD), Blues has lived in Lexington since 1965, when he began a 33-year teaching career in the University of Kentucky Department of English.

Tom BluesA long-time neighborhood volunteer, Blues promotes active neighborhood associations within his district. Serving on the Planning Committee, he supports improvement of parks and development of greenway trails systems, residential growth within the urban services boundary, preservation of Lexington’s agricultural and scenic surroundings, and regional planning. A member of the Services Committee, he is committed to improving traffic flow and safety conditions on city streets, strengthening code enforcement, and resolving infrastructure problems.
