The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s Emergency Alerts and Notifications (LEAN) system is an automated community notification tool designed to enhance preparedness and facilitate urgent and necessary outbound communications to citizens during emergency events.
There are two (2) types of communications provided through LEAN – (1) Emergency Alerts, and (2) Emergency Notifications. An Emergency Alert is initiated for Amber and Golden Alerts, evacuation or shelter in place instructions, and other emergency events that necessitate alerting the public. An Emergency Notification is a specific notification of a predefined event of public concern, such as activation of Snow Emergency Routes.
You may choose to self-register on the LEAN system for Emergency Alerts, Emergency Notifications or both. However, existing land-line telephones with active service are automatically registered to receive Emergency Alerts without the need for any additional action on your part.
If you wish to add or change the information related to that telephone, or if you wish to receive Emergency Notifications, you must self-register on the LEAN system.
Cellular and VoIP telephones are not currently in the system database. If you would like to be contacted on your cellular or VoIP device to receive either Emergency Alerts and/or Notifications, you must self register on the LEAN system.
Participation is voluntary and your number will not be shared for any other purpose.
Although this is a free service administrated by Lexington’s Department of Public Safety, you may be charged a standard fee from your phone service provider if you exceed your current data plan for receiving voice calls or text messages. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is not responsible for any charges that may be incurred as a result of receiving these alerts.
Currently, the receipt of alerts and notifications via email is unavailable. This feature will be made available in the near future and you will be notified thru LEAN when this service is available.
Voice notifications will be sent to your designated phone from telephone numbers (859) 425-2032, (615) 369-5605, or (615) 369-5784, please add this number to your phone’s contact list.
