City of Lexington Launches New Pilot Website
Encourages citizens to offer feedback
Posted Date: 2/10/2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2016) – The city of Lexington today announced the redesign of its official website with the launch of a new pilot site:  next.lexingtonky.gov.  The goal of the pilot site is to offer a preview of the new website’s overall design and seek citizen input during its development process.

“In many ways, lexingtonky.gov is the face of city government,” said Aldona Valicenti, Lexington’s Chief Information Officer.  “Every day, citizens use the website to access everything from signing their children up for summer camp to locating Lexington’s snow removal plan.  We want to make it simpler, clearer and faster for everyone to use."

The new website is designed to help users navigate the city’s many services in a way that is simple and intuitive. It will also feature new digital services that will improve users’ access and efficiency.

The pilot site is a way for citizens to preview the new way content is organized and interact with the site’s latest features.  Some highlights include:

  • Mobile-friendly – the new site is optimized to fit all screen sizes, including smartphones, so users can easily access lexingtonky.gov from any location
  • Trending Links – an up-to-the-minute list of the most frequently visited website pages
  • User Feedback – every page on the pilot site features a user feedback button
      • Other features coming soon to the site include the ability to search parks by amenities and a comprehensive events calendar that will list all city-sponsored events, council meetings and more.

The pilot site is a work-in-progress and not a full website. Users should expect to see a range of new features, but not an all-inclusive, final product.  New content and features will be continually added throughout the upcoming months with an expected full launch date later in 2016.  In the meantime, the current website (lexingtonky.gov) will operate as usual.

Citizen engagement has been an ongoing part of the new website project. Citizens have shared valuable insight about how to improve the current website and are encouraged to continue to share opinions on the redesign through feedback navigation tools.  Stay up-to-date with new site features by signing up at next.lexingtonky.gov/about-the-site.

The city’s new website project is a collaborative effort of the city’s Division of Computer Services and Division of Government Communications.
