Children, parents, teachers and staff at the Family Care Center entertained Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and other special guests at the center’s first PAL rally in several years.
A center tradition for more than a decade, the rallies are sponsored by the Positive Attitude League to lift morale. This year’s rally was planned around the theme, “Back to the Future,” where children dressed up in space-theme costumes and performed songs and danced.
Staffer Karen Hacker paid tribute to special guest Jean Sabarwahl, founder and first director of the Family Care Center, which opened in 1989. Hacker did an impersonation of her former boss, which entertained Sabarwahl as well as the rest of the crowd.
Social Services Commissioner Beth Mills got into the spirit of the rally by donning a black wig to appear with the “Beatles.” The other three members of the “famous” quartet were Diane Woods, acting director of Family Services; Karen Underwood, Early Childcare Center Manager, and Sandra Youth, Parent Education Center Manager.
