February 3 - 5, 2012
University of Kentucky Seaton Center
Admission: Free
Every February, the top wheelchair basketball teams from across the country wheel their way into Lexington to compete in the Bluegrass Invitational Wheelchair Tournament (BGIT). Held at the UK Seaton Center, this premier tournament will host the top Championship Division and Division III teams from the United States. The BGIT features intense, end-to-end competition and is an event that basketball fans will not want to miss.
Wheelchair basketball is a spectacular team sport that follows NCAA rules with some minor modifications. It is played on standard basketball courts with regulation height baskets; however, there is no double dribble violation and a player can take only two pushes of the chair before they pass, shoot or dribble the ball. Player classifications range from 1.0 (high level of disability) to 3.0 points (minimal level of disability). The points are used to ensure fair competition.
The BGIT is brought to you by Lexington Parks & Recreation. For more information, call 288-2916.
