In its 24th year, Ballet Under the Stars is one of Central Kentucky’s most anticipated events of the summer. This unique festival allows audiences to enjoy the beauty and grandeur of a professional ballet in the relaxed, casual setting of the park. The evening will begin with a pre-show youth production at 8 pm followed by the main show that will once again feature professional dancers from Kentucky Ballet Theatre and the Lexington Ballet Company. Lawn chairs and/or blankets should be brought for seating and patrons may pack a picnic dinner or purchase concessions onsite. Local dance students ranging in age from 7–18 years may audition to perform in the pre-show on the evenings of Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9 at the Buell Armory on UK’s campus (see the attached brochure for audition details.) For more information please call 288-2925.
Ballet Under the Stars is presented by Lexington Parks & Recreation and the Ballet Under the Stars Volunteer Committee.
In honor of the 2013 Ballet Under the Stars Preshow “Princess Vignettes” Lexington Parks and Recreation is hosting a special princess tea party. Before the ballet, children may don their best tutu and tiara and join in for a magical, fun-filled event.
All of the “princesses” will learn a special dance while enjoying fancy foods, party favors, face painting and a special live performance of some of your favorite princess songs by a fellow princess. Attendees can also bring their camera to take a picture with the Princesses from the Ballet Under the Stars preshow.
Two teas will be held at the Woodland Park Gazebo on Friday, August 2 and Sunday, August 4 from 6 – 7 pm. Children may register to attend one event date only. The cost is $10 per child which covers activities and food for the child participant only and does not include admission to the Ballet Under the Stars show which is $5 per person or children 3 and under free.)
