Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Ballet Under the Stars is one of Central Kentucky’s most anticipated events of the summer. This unique festival allows audiences to enjoy the beauty and grandeur of a professional ballet in the relaxed, casual setting of the park. The event will begin with a pre-show youth production (Princess Vignettes II) at 8 p.m. followed by the main show that will feature professional dancers from Kentucky Ballet Theatre. Lawn chairs and/or blankets should be brought for seating and patrons may pack a picnic dinner or purchase concessions onsite. Admission is $5 per person, children 3 & under are free. In honor of the 2014 Ballet Under the Stars Preshow “Princess Vignettes II,” Lexington Parks & Recreation is once again hosting a princess tea party. Before the ballet, children may don their best tutu and tiara and join in for a magical, fun-filled event.
All of the “princesses” will learn a special dance while enjoying fancy foods, party favors, princess tattoos and a special live performance of favorite princess songs. Attendees can bring their camera to take a picture with Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, Merida, Jasmine and the Frozen Sisters.
Three teas will be held at the Woodland Park Gazebo – Friday, August 1, Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3 from 6 – 7 p.m. Participants may register to attend one event date only. The cost is $10 per child which covers activities and food for the child participant only and does not include admission to the Ballet Under the Stars show. The show, which starts at 8 p.m., is $5 per person (children 3 and under free). All proceeds benefit Ballet Under the Stars.
