Lexington Parks & Recreation offers classes in basic horsemanship with the purpose of teaching individuals how to ride safely and to work around horses. Taught through a supervised program, all instruction is English Hunt Seat. Additionally, youth and adults classes for individuals with mental or physical disabilities are also offered. Riding lessons are divided accordingly to riding experience into three levels:
  • Beginners – Those who have had very limited or no riding experience with horses or those new to our program.
  • Intermediate – Riders should know how to post and starting to learn their diagonals.
  • Advanced – Riders should know the posting trot, diagonals and feel comfortable riding figure-eights, serpentines and working in a group; in some cases these classes include beginning jumping.
